OTTAWA – “Quentin Tarantino stole this from us.”Ten years after his death, and more than four decades after it was taken, the photo of Pierre Trudeau striding up the drive at Rideau Hall — flanked by his dark-suited cabinet-to-be — still packs a blast of movie-star, hipster cool. The Tarantino quip comes from Trudeau’s son Justin, who along with brother Alexander provides commentary to the many iconic photos in “Pierre Trudeau: Images of Canada’s Passionate Statesman.” The 188-page book of black-and-white images shot by news photographers at The Canadian Press is on store shelves this week, in time for the 10th anniversary of the passing of Canada’s 15th prime minister on Sept. 28, 2000.
