Spring is in the air at Fujifilm

Okay, winter is officially just a few weeks old, but Fujifilm Canada is already talking about its Spring 2011 line. And an extensive one it is — 11 new models ranging from the under $100 AV230 and AX300 to the flagship in FinePix HS20EXR stuffed with a new 16 megapixel EXR-CMOS sensor, 30x optical zoom and 1080p HD video. These will start appearing in February.

FinePix HS20EXR ($499.99, srp): The new flagship has a 30x image stabilized zoom lens and new 16 megapixel EXR-CMOS sensor/ EXR Processor combo that offers wider dynamic range, according to Fujifilm. The fast processor allows the camera to capture bursts of up to 11 frames/sec. There’s also a high-speed movie capture mode of 320 fps in addition to full 1080p HD video. This model also includes an auto panorama mode called Motion Panorama 360 (sounds similar to Sony’s Sweep Panorama) that lets you create a panorama by simply panning the camera with the shutter button depressed — the camera rapidly takes a series of shots and stitches them together.

FinePix F550EXR ($349.99): This compact superzoom also uses the 16 megapixel EXR-CMOS sensor and EXR processor. It has a 15x (24-360 mm equiv) zoom lens and built-in GPS. It also does 1080p HD video, high-speed burst (11 exposures/sec at reduced resolution) and includes Motion Panorama 360.

The S3400 ($279.99) and S2950 ($229.99) are similar but for the zoom lens. The S3400 has a 28x (24mm to 672mm) zoom while the S2950 has an 18x (28mm to 504mm) lens. Both use a 14 megapixel sensor, capture 720p HD video and include a Motion Panorama feature that stitches three exposures to create a wide panorama.

FinePix XP20 ($199.99) and XP30 ($229.99) are the ruggedized twosome. Both are rated as able to survive a 1.5 metre drop, are waterproof to 5 metres, freezeproof to -10°C and also dustproof. Both come with a 14 megapixel sensor and a 5x optical zoom lens. The XP30 also has built-in GPS.

The slick and stylish FinePix Z90 ($169.99) pictured at the top of this piece gets a three-inch touch-enabled LCD that lets you focus and shoot by tapping the screen. It has a 14 megapixel sensor, 5x zoom lens.

Rounding out the spring line are the FinePix T200 with a 14 megapixel sensor and10x optical zoom and entry level JX300 and JV200.
