Adobe has announced a mid-cycle upgrade to Creative Suite 5, adding a “point-5” to the name and also making the suite, or its components available through subscription. This means Photoshop CS5.5 can be yours for around $35 per month while Photoshop Extended CS5.5 will cost around $50 per month (on a one-year term. Month-to-month rate is higher).
The company has announced that the Creative Suite is now locked into a 24-month refresh cycles, with minor upgrades coming through “mid-cycle upgrades.
Adobe says it is embracing the emerging tablet world with Photoshop CS5.5 by announcing the Photoshop Touch Software Development Kit. This will allow developers to create apps for Android, Blackberry or iPhone/iPad that interact with Photoshop. The company has already built three iPad apps using the Touch SDK — Color Lava, Eazel and Nav (available in early May from the iTunes App Store). Color Lava (screenshot shown below), for example, allows you to create colour swatches on the iPad by “mixing” colours with your finger, then transfer the swatch back to Photoshop.
