Work by fourth-year OCAD student Shirin Fathi, who is completing a minor in Photography, has been awarded a Scotiabank Scholarship from the CONTACT Photography Festival to attend a Magnum Photos Workshop.
Magnum Photos, one of the most prestigious photographic agencies in the world, is a cooperative organization fully owned and operated by its members that represents only 60 photographers worldwide. Through its mandate of promoting the vision of each individual member, Magnum’s photographers chronicle the world and interpret its peoples, events, issues and personalities. Through its four editorial offices in New York, London, Paris and Tokyo, and a network of 15 sub-agents, Magnum Photos supplies photographs to media outlets, publishing houses, advertising firms, television networks, galleries and museums.
The intimate five-day shooting workshop gives participants an opportunity to learn from one of six Magnum Photographers: Bruno Barbey, Chien-Chi Chang, Bruce Gilden, David Alan Harvey, Eli Reed and Larry Towell. The program will focus on story formation, visual literacy, and personal vision, in addition to the informal cross-pollination of ideas and discussion with all participants.
Congratulations to Shirin for gaining access to such a coveted opportunity!
