Olympus SP-810UZ Carries 36x Zoom

Meet Olympus’s latest entry in the superzoom category. The SP-810UZ is a 14 megapixel camera with a fixed lens, but with a zoom range of 24-864 mm (equivalent for 35mm film format), you probably won’t be pining for interchangeable lenses. The variable aperture starts at a fairly bright f/2.9 at wide angle to f/5.7 at maximum telephoto.
This camera is designed to be simple to use. It has no manual modes, but includes something called Intelligent Auto Mode, which programs the optimal camera settings for five common situations. There are a number of art filter special effects, a panorama mode, and a 3D mode that creates a 3D image from two frames. It even has a pet detection mode — face detection for your furry friends.
Few cameras today ship without a movie mode, and in this case its 720p HD video. One of the nice features of fixed lens cameras is the built-in macro mode, and the SP-810UZ has a super macro mode that allows you to focus as close as 5 cm from the front of the lens.
The SP-810UZ will be available in September for approximately $330.
