Toronto’s Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography will present two new exhibitions from January 13 to February 11. Marc Audette’s Art Class 010 is a photographic series exploring themes of painting and drawing. In the images, Audette references art-based practices and techniques like chiaroscuro, still life, perspective and foreshortening. The series is mostly tableaux vivants set up and photographed by Audette in the university classroom where he teaches. Audette’s work challenges what he describes as “the dogma of the image.” The second exhibition will be a digital installation by Yannig Willmann, artist-in-residence of the Alliance Française de Toronto. Exploring the creation of fantasy within fact, Willmann’s The Third Reflection will connect the exhibition spaces of the Gallery 44 vitrines and the Alliance Française Gallery.
