Through March 31, Julia Feyrer’s Alternatives and Opportunities is on view at Catriona Jeffries Gallery in Vancouver. This exhibition of Feyrer’s work includes 16mm film, sound, sculpture and daguerreotype. The Artist’s Studio is her exploration of image-making with daguerreotypes using the studio as a stage. Feyrer recreated a staged tableau of a daguerreotype by Louis Daguerre, then shows it becoming inhabited through her 16 mm film and a series of three sequenced daguerreotypes. The work also includes a sculptural display of two books. Also on view in Alternatives and Opportunities are two other bodies of Feyrer’s work, Little pitchers have big ears and Dailies.
