Sony World Photography Awards 2012

The Sony World Photography Awards were announced on Thursday, April 26. The L’Iris d’Or—the 2012 Sony World Photography Awards Photographer of the Year—went to U.S. photographer Mitch Dobrowner for his impressive black-and-white series, Storms. They also announced Tobias Bräuning from Germany as the Open winner, William Klein as the recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to Photography Award, and Asef Ali Mohammad from Middlesex University, U.K., as the Student Focus Award winner. Canadian Donald Weber won the Current Affairs category (Photojournalism and Documentary). As part of World Photo London, the winning images are being exhibited from now until May 20 at The Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at London’s Somerset House.
