Inspired by 19th-century female writers, Julia Callon‘s Houses of Fiction explores images as a representation of reality. Callon combines photography and small models of domestic spaces to examine the role of women in society, the depiction of the home as a place of refuge or of repression, and the assessment of sanity or madness.

Houses of Fiction will be on view at the IMA Gallery in Toronto from September 12 through 29. The opening reception will be September 13 from 6 to 9 p.m.
