Through March 13, the CONTACT Gallery in Toronto is featuring Montreal-based photographer Michel Huneault’s La longue nuit de Mégantic. The documentary photographer took these images during numerous visits to the area over a year, arriving for the first time only hours after the train disaster 2013. Huneault approaches this work by focusing on the community and the personal stories of loss, mourning, absence, justice, and the passing of time.
His practice centres on issues related to development, trauma (personal and collective), and complex geographies. The artist won CONTACT’s 2014 Portfolio Reviews Exhibition Award. La longue nuit de Mégantic will be presented in Lac-Mégantic after this exhibition at the CONTACT Gallery.
