Upcoming Workshops Across Canada

In case you didn’t know, to the right of the main page of our website, there’s a list of upcoming workshops and seminars, and, below that, a calendar that shows more workshops in various locations across Canada. We update this with events and seminars that we know about so that you can see if there is a learning opportunity coming up in your region. So what kind of workshops are going on anyways? Here’s a few examples of events that are coming up!

On April 18, the Greater Toronto Council of Camera Clubs (GTCCC) is offering an education day called Capturing Light and Shadows from 9 to 4:30 p.m. at the Sherton Parkway in Richmond Hill, Ont. Don Komarechka and Andrew Collett will be leading a day packed with the following tutorials: Smoke Photography, Composition & Perspectives, Blurb Photo-Book Workshop, Light Room 5 Level 2 Workflow, Human Form Photography, Luminosity Masking, External Flash Techniques, Street Photography, Magic with Manual Settings, Natural and Continuous Light Portraits “Finding the Light.” The price is $140 ($100 for club members and $85 for students). In Calgary, on April 19, the Camera Store has a Hands-On Intermediate DSLR Photography Workshop from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is hands-on workshop to help you learn how to make the most out of your DSLR. The instructor will cover topics like a review of camera operations for exposure, depth of field, motion, custom white balance, HDR, using the histogram to check your work, applying lighting sources (natural and on-camera flash), and creative techniques and composition. On May 9 from 9 to 5 p.m., Henry’s Learning Lab is presenting Illuminating the Face with Peter Hurley in Halifax at the Delta Halifax. Hurley will share his expert facial lighting techniques for his signature headshots and portraits. He’ll discuss lighting set-ups and demonstrate these techniques through a live photo shoot onstage. The workshop is internediate level, and all attendees will also receive a $25 Henry’s gift card. Early bird rates are $150 through April 26. For more information, visit this workshop’s webpage.
